Prior to his apprehension, posters featuring the suspect, taken from CCTV footage depicting him coming down the stairs of Saif Ali Khan’s residence, were distributed throughout Mumbai and nearby regions.Shehzad allegedly entered the residence with plans to steal but ultimately stabbed the actor during the act.
Mumbai police requested custody
In court, the Mumbai Police requested 14 days of custody for Shehzad to probe possible connections to an international plot, as he is a Bangladeshi national. “The possibility of an international conspiracy cannot be dismissed,” the court noted while allowing five days of police custody for additional questioning. Nonetheless, the attorney defending Shehzad in court contended that he was not a Bangladeshi, but an Indian national residing in Mumbai.
“The issue is being overly exaggerated due to the involvement of Saif Ali Khan.” If not, it would have been handled as a regular case. The grounds for custody were not clearly outlined in the remand request. “The lawyer stated that the defendant is a young boy without any previous criminal history and is being used as a scapegoat. Saif Ali Khan is presently recuperating following his successful surgery to address spinal fluid leakage.
